Where did the babydoll come from? 

American lingerie designer Sylvia Pedlar is credited with having invented the type of super-short nightgown we would now recognise as the babydoll, in response to World War II-era fabric shortages. 

She didn’t, however, have much fondness for the name ‘babydolls’ for these garments, and therefore did not refer to them as such. 

Why might I wear a babydoll?
