Plus Size Sophie Dahl is an English author and former model who was born in London in
1977.
She is the daughter of actor Julian Holloway and writer Tessa Dahl. Her maternal grandfather was author Roald Dahl and her paternal grandfather was the actor Stanley Holloway
According to some
stories she was spotted by fashion doyenne Isabella Blow as an 18 year old sobbing
on a doorstep following an argument with her mother, who immediately told the curvaceous
girl that she could be a model.
At six
feet tall and a UK Dress size 14 she initially made her name as a curvaceous
fuller figure model. Her success allied to her voluptuous good looks made her a
role model for women worldwide encouraging them to take pride in their
bodies whatever shape and size.
A fuller
figure lingerie promotion run by UK retailer H&M was one of her best known
early pieces of modelling work.
She
has also written several books including the cookery book Miss Dahl’s Voluptuous Delights
which champions the sensuous side of preparing and
consuming food.
In 2000 she achieved notoriety when she appeared naked in an
advertising campaign which was subsequently banned by the Advertising Standards
Authority.
